Rotterdam 2021🇪🇸 Spain

🇪🇸 Destino Eurovisión to be held on 20th February

Joining Norway and Finland on a "Super Saturday"!

After the release of the two potential Spanish entries yesterday, it has now been revealed that the Destino Eurovisión gala will be held on Saturday 20th February. This means we have just over a week to wait to see which song is selected as Spain’s Eurovision 2021 entry!

Blas Cantó will perform both his potential entries during the show and one will be selected to represent Spain in Rotterdam in May. Voting is open to both Spanish and international viewers, and you can already vote online now.

“Memoria” or “Voy a quedarme”?

Yesterday, RTVE revealed the two potential entries – “Memoria” and “Voy a quedarme”. As mentioned above, voting is already open online, but you can also vote via phone, SMS or on the RTVE Eurovision app. This voting window will close just before Destino Eurovisión.

After Blas has performed both songs during the show on 20th February, the voting will reopen, online only, and you will be able to vote for your favourite performance.

Alongside performances of his national final entries, Blas also confirmed last week that he will duet with special guests including some past Eurovision stars. These include Pastora Soler, Vanesa Martín, Edurne, Nia, Andrés Suárez, Cepeda and Roi.

RTVE commentators Tony Aguilar and Julia Varela will be hosting the show.

Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest

Debuting in 1961 with “Estando contigo”, Spain have always had mixed luck in the Eurovision Song Contest. A two-time winning nation in 1968 and 1969, they are now a member of the “Big 5” meaning that they have never missed a final. However, Spain have not had a top five finish since 1995 when Anabel Conde finished second with “Vuelve conmigo”.

In recent years, Spain have scored a string of poor results and for the past five contests, they have not managed to make it into the top 20. In Tel Aviv in 2019, Miki represented the Iberian nation with “La venda” and finished in 22nd place with 54 points. Last year, Blas Cantó was set to represent Spain with “Universo”, before the contest was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
