Rehearsing right now inside the Rotterdam Ahoy is Vasil, performing “Here I Stand” for North Macedonia. We will continue to update this article as each run through takes place, so make sure to keep refreshing for the most up-to-date review!
Vasil begins on a darkened stage with a single spotlight, in which some holographic effects appear on his microphone stand. The graphics begin with a light on his heart which then transforms into a larger effect that he interacts with using his hand. He is alone on stage and is wearing a black suit.
Towards the end of the performance, Vasil opens his black suit to reveal a shirt in the style of a disco ball that reflects a strobelight which many press members are describing as reminiscent, but certainly not a copy, of that seen in Dotter’s Melodifestivalen performance of “Bulletproof”.
It feels as though the stage is a little empty in places, this could be due to missing pyrotechnic effects that we’ll see in a second rehearsal. Vasil is also holding back vocally, singing in a lower key and taking a break from hitting the biggest notes in “Here I Stand”. Nevertheless, he looks confident and emotionally connected to his song.
