Rehearsal review

Those who watched Festival da Canção will be familar with the staging style of The Black Mamba. However, Portugal have utilised the possibilities of a larger, more high tech set up. The styling is almost completely the same.

The first section of the performance is entirely in black and white, like the FdC staging. But…BUT it then switches it up with a transition into colour with warm sunset hues. The LEDs have silhouettes of people with a blue backing, before lights swell around the stage as the animation flips to orange.

For the rousing climax, lead singer Pedro takes to the satellite stage, revealing some additional LEDs on the transparent side screen. The LED features an animation of a woman walking down a street lined with lines between the back screen and the side screen.

Overall, this has been one of the biggest surprises of rehearsals so far, and I am now confident that this will qualify, or at least be top 10 with the jury.
