🇳🇱 The Netherlands finish bottom three in Eurovision televoting with 63% of the countries

No country ranks the Netherlands higher than #18

In the last of our articles about the nil pointers of last night’s televote at the Eurovision Song Contest final, we look at the Netherlands. Like Spain, the Netherlands scored a fair amount of bottom three results in the televoting, with 63% of all countries putting the host country that low. Jeangu Macrooy failed to win televoting points with his Birth of a new age.

Bottom threes galore for the Netherlands

United Kingdom finished in last place with fourteen countries. The Netherlands are not that far behind, though, as eight countries decided to rank Birth Of A New Age in last place. A further seven countries decided to put the Netherlands in second to last, with another nine countries putting Jeangu Macrooy third last. That means 24 out of 38 voting countries had the Netherlands in their bottom three – a staggering percentage of 63%.

With so many bottom three results, it is no surprise that the average placing for The Netherlands is staggeringly low as well. Jeangu Macrooy achieved an average of 23.2, which is only 0.2 higher than the average James Newman achieved for the United Kingdom.

Nowhere near the points for Jeangu Macrooy

After looking at all the nil pointers, we see that most of them came somewhat close a point finish. Germany recorded two spots of #13, United Kingdom #14 and Spain #12. The Netherlands however fall short on this front as well. Birth Of A New Age did not reach the top fifteen anywhere. Even stronger, the highest score the Netherlands achieved was #18 in neighbouring country Belgium. Other than that, Denmark put Jeangu Macrooy at #19, with Germany and Norway awarding it a twentieth place. All other 34 nations did not put The Netherlands in their respective top twenties.

That means The Netherlands and the United Kingdom deserve the award of worst performing entries of the night, looking at averages and their best score on the board. Gladly for Jeangu Macrooy and last night’s host nation, the juries gave Birth Of A New Age a couple of points: Austria and Australia awarded them three points, Georgia and Bulgaria two and Portugal one point.

  1. The song was complete garbage anyway, and by far the worst to be performed on the night. Cancellation of 2020 gave the Netherlands the opportunity to dodge a bullet and select a new representative following the equally dire song Macrooy put out last year, yet they still stuck with him.

  2. So officially the most robbed song of the year. So angry and gutted. Screw racist Europe. I sent 3 votes for him from Russia, and still 24th…
