Estonia have become the latest country to confirm their Eurovision 2022 participation. As expected, ERR, the public broadcaster, will once again be using Eesti Laul to select their entry. The submission process is due to be launched next month.
ERR, the Estonian public broadcaster, have confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Italy to ESCToday. The broadcaster will once again be using the Eesti Laul format to select their entry.
Details of the submissions process, once again open to new and experienced artists, are due to be published by the broadcaster in September. Earlier this year, the broadcaster signed an agreement with Spanish broadcaster TEN to broadcast the selection on Spanish TV for the first time.
Estonia at Eurovision 2021
In 2020, Estonia selected Uku Suviste to represent Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with his song ‘What Love Is’, which was written by Uku with Sharon Vaughn and produced by Dimitris Kontopoulos. Unfortunately, the contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rather than re-select Uku internally, they instead gave him an invitation to compete in Eesti Laul 2021, which he accepted. In a field of 24 acts, Uku won Eesti Laul for the second year in a row with “The Lucky One”. However, this success failed to translate in Rotterdam. Performing 2nd in semi-final two, he finished 13th with 58 points.
