KEiiNO release new single ‘A New Beginning’

KEiiNO are back with a new single that promises a new beginning! The Eurovision 2019 televote winners remain active after returning to try out for Eurovision at the start of the year with Monument, releasing a song with young Norwegian singer-songwriter Peder Elias.

Something new?

True to form, KEiiNO are keeping their distinctive sound alive with their latest song, but it’s also one that for KEiiNO marks a distinctive step in their music career.

Speaking to Keiino-news, they talked about the song and their hopes for it, along with their collaboration with Peder Elias.

“A New Beginning” is about letting the old go and starting something new. Some people, as the quartet sings about in the song, hope to break out of a pattern in 2022. Others may want to be more structured. Maybe next year will be the year you’ll finally manage to keep your apartment tidy, or maybe be more mentally balanced? Or finally, get better at eating vegetables, say no to the last round in the bar or go for runs more often?

Peder Elias is a 24-year old Norwegian singer-songwriter who is known for tracks such as ‘Simple’ and ‘Home’. KEiiNO were very complementary about working with him.

We used a Norwegian producer this time, and it was so much fun in the studio! It was also great writing with Peder Elias since we represent two very different genres, and we all had some different ideas that we made one.

A New Beginning

‘A New Beginning’ follows the electropop and joiking route that won KEiiNO such praise at Eurovision and with their other singles. Elias brings a more traditional Scandipop feeling to the single, complementing KEiiNO’s usual style.

KEiiNO at the Eurovision Song Contest

KEiiNO were a fan favourite in 2019, coming top in the televote. They placed sixth overall with a total of 331 points. Thus achieving Norway’s highest points total last decade and best result since Margaret Berger placed fourth in 2013 with ‘I Feed You My Love’. Their platinum debut single, ‘Spirit In The Sky’ was nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ at the Norwegian Grammys and has won 4 Scandipop-awards.

In 2021, KEiiNO returned to Melodi Grand Prix. They had unfinished business with Eurovision, and after two years of success, wanted to return with the well-received ‘MONUMENT’. At the same time the group filmed a documentary series covering their whirlwind adventures of 2019 and a vlog to allow fans a glimpse into the process behind the comeback. During the final, the public televote advanced KEiiNO all the way to the Gold Duel. However they lost out to TIX, who would go on to represent Norway at Rotterdam for 2021.
