Rehearsal review
Stage presentation
EDM songs have been notoriously difficult stage at Eurovision, and even more so in national finals, meaning that the contest has struggled to capitalise fully on the EDM trends of the 00s and 10s. Any concerns that this would not buck the trend have been alleviated by what is one of the best stage shows of the year so far.
Dominika is at the fore of the performance, with Casper and Benjamin on each side of her in full DJ set ups. There are LEDs of Roman/Grecian statues throughout, emerging from the floor during the bridge.
The highlight of the performance is the ‘so turn the lights off’ refrain – which, as expected, saw the stage plunged into complete darkness, before an epic finish. The silver shards of light that pulsate around the Pala Olimpico are magical, and create a frenetic night club energy in the hall. If you have tickets, you’re in for a treat.
Costumes and styling
Dominika has slicked back hair, and is wearing a strapless purple jumpsuit with accents of yellow/cream. Both Casper and Benjamin are wearing dystopian overalls, similar to the aesthetic of the music video.
Vocal quality
Despite some accusations following her pre-party performances, Dominika absolutely nailed each of the three runs. She is being backed up by a live off-stage vocalist, which is perfectly blended with the main vocal. Any concerns around how this sounds are now gone.
Overall impression
This easily got one of the biggest reactions of today; “Lights Off” was selected almost 6 months ago now, and so has fallen somewhat under the radar, but now, it is rising once again in people’s estimations. It’s the perfect closer for the semi, and feels like a certain qualifier at this point. In the final, I wonder if it can be carried to a left-hand side finish…
