The Scoop🇪🇸 Spain

Ana Mena has ‘no plans’ to enter Benidorm Fest

Despite being a fan favorite to represent Spain and be Chanel’s successor in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Ana Mena has made it clear that she has no intentions to enter the national selection.

“Going to Benidorm Fest is not among my plans”

Ana Mena has been named several times recently as one of the artists to represent Spain in the upcoming contest. Competing in Benidorm Fest however, does not seem to be “among her plans” for next year. The artist said that she needs to focus on finishing her album at the moment. The artist still did not rule out the possibility of writing a song for the national selection.

“I like to follow it, but right now I don’t plan on going. I have other things in my head, including finishing my album, which for me is super important, and I think that to present yourself to the Benidorm Fest, you have to work a long time on it, to bring a good proposal and that it is not a quick thing”

“Italy is my second home”

Despite not wanting to compete in Benidorm Fest, the artist does wish to return to Sanremo after competing this year. Ana Mena became the first foreign act to compete in the selection since 2015. She performed the song ‘Duecentomila ore’ which finished on the 24th place.

Ana has said that she considers Italy “her second home” and that she felt lucky competing in Sanremo after trying so many times. She also added that going to Sanremo she did not have expectations to win. “My only goal was to be able to be there and enjoy it to the fullest; and not only the music, but the people, speaking Italian all the time“.

Ana has been recording songs in Italian for a long time now, with her most recent release being ‘Mezzanotte’. The song was also released in Spanish as a duet with Belinda titled ‘Las 12’.
