Following two semi-finals, the Grand Final of Festival da Canção 2023 took place tonight, thus concluding the last national final of the 2023 season. 13 acts competed for the Portuguese ticket to Liverpool.
Tonight’s show was hosted live from Lisbon by Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim, with Inês Lopes Gonçalves hosting the green room once again. As always, the show was a showcase of Portuguese music and culture, featuring an internal performance from Maro, last year’s winner and Portuguese Eurovision representative.
The running order was as follows:
- Cláudia Pascoal – “Nasci Maria”
- Churky – “Encruzilhada”
- Esse Povo – “Sapatos de Cimento”
- Bárbara Tinoco – “Goodnight”
- You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown – “Contraste Mudo”
- Voodoo Marmalade – “Tormento”
- Inês Apenas – “Fim do Mundo”
- Mimicat – “Ai Coração”

Portugal’s entry for Liverpool was determined based on the 50/50 combination of votes from seven regional juries and a public televote.
Due to Mimicat and Edmundo both receiving 66 points from the regional juries, they both received 12 points from this portion. This is particularly notable considering that both entries were from the open call submissions, rather than the RTP invitations.
However, thanks to the televote, Mimicat narrowly beat out Edmundo and claimed the ticket to Liverpool.
