Melodi Grand Prix 2024 has finally kicked off from the Norwegian capital of Oslo, and we have our very first three finalists! This year, there has been a slight change to the number of semifinal participants, so tonight we saw six entries fight for three places in the final. The qualifiers were decided solely through votes from the NRK app, and the show was hosted by Fredrik Solvang and Marion Ravn.
Repeating the dramatic format from last year, each of the participants were called one by one, to be told wheter they had made it to the final or not. The first finalist to be announced was Ingrid Jasmin, followed shortly by Margaret Berger, and in the very end, Gothminister could breath as sigh of relief, as he was the last act of the night to be revealed as a finalist. The qualifiers were announced in random order, and the full results of the semifinals will not be revealed until after the final.
Ahead of tonight’s show, we, here at ESCXTRA, voted for our favorites in XTRA DECIDES, with our winner being Margaret Berger, who is returning to the competition after representing Norway in Eurovision 2013.
The six songs that competed tonight were, with qualifiers in bold:
- Mathilde SPZ feat. Chris Archer & Slam Dunk – “Woman Show”
- Fredrik Halland – “Stranded”
- Myra – “Heart on Fire”
- Gothminister – “We Come Alive”
- Ingrid Jasmin – “Eya”
- Margaret Berger – “Oblivion”
Melodi Grand Prix 2024 consists of three semifinals in Oslo, and a grand final, which will take place on February 3rd in Trondheim. This means that Norway will continue their search for their 2024 Eurovision representative next week!
