The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will be graced by the presence of an all-female hosting duo, as presenter Petra Mede and actress Malin Åkerman step into the spotlight to lead the event in Malmö this May.
Malin Åkerman, originally from Stockholm but raised in Canada, began her acting career in 1997. Notable roles in films such as “Watchmen” and “The Proposal,” along with appearances in TV series like “Billions,” have solidified her reputation in the entertainment industry. Åkerman expressed her excitement for the opportunity, stating, “I can’t really describe my feelings about this. I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way.”
Meanwhile, Petra Mede, renowned for her comedic talents, brings her wealth of experience to the Eurovision stage. Having previously hosted the contest twice, including a solo stint in 2013 and a co-hosting role in 2016, Mede’s return marks her third engagement with the event. She shared her enthusiasm for the collaboration with Åkerman, stating, “Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again! It’s such an incredible honor.”
In 2023, Loreen secured Sweden’s seventh victory in the 67th edition with “Tattoo.” This win marks her second triumph in the competition, making her the first woman to achieve this milestone. Sweden’s success in Eurovision cements its position as one of the most accomplished countries in the contest’s history.
Malmö, a city with a storied Eurovision legacy, will host the event for the third time, following its previous turns in 1992 and 2013. With preparations underway and anticipation building, Eurovision 2024 promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its diverse array of performances and the dynamic hosting duo of Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman.
