Montenegro Confirms Eurovision Return for 2025 with Montesong

Exciting news for Eurovision fans—Montenegro is making a comeback in 2025! After sitting out the last two contests, the Balkan nation is gearing up to return to the Eurovision Song Contest next year. But that’s not all—they’re bringing back a national selection, Montesong, to choose their entry.

What We Know So Far

Montesong is set to take place later this year, and it’s shaping up to be a thrilling event for Montenegrin artists. The rules are already out, and there’s a lot of buzz about who might step up to represent the country. Anyone interested has until October 1, 2024, to submit their song. There are some important guidelines—artists need to have Montenegrin citizenship, and over half of the song’s lyrics need to be in one of the country’s official languages.

RTCG, the country’s public broadcaster, will pick up to 16 songs for the competition. They’ve put together a panel to score the entries on melody, lyrics, and production, with a total of 100 points up for grabs. If a song scores at least 75 points, it’ll make it to the final stage of Montesong . If none hit that mark, RTCG could opt to choose their Eurovision entry internally instead.

A Long-Awaited Return

Although the final date for Montesong isn’t set yet, it’s expected to happen by the end of the year. Whoever wins will be Montenegro’s representative at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland next May, and fans are eager to see who will carry the country’s flag.

Montenegro last participated in Eurovision in 2022, and their best result so far came in 2015 when Knez finished 13th with “Adio.” Their return is great news for Eurovision enthusiasts, and it’s clear that Montenegro is ready to make its mark on the contest once again.
