Finland’s national final will take place on February 8th, which makes that the date that the Finnish audience and jury will decide their Eurovision 2025 entry.
We’re filling up the calendar for next year’s Eurovision and in this case doing so with one the most hotly anticipated selection shows on the calendar. February tends to be when a large number of national finals are held, with many going for a primetime Saturday night slot.
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK)
The Finnish National Final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (‘Contest For New Music’) is used to showcase the best of new Finnish musical talent, and also select the Finnish entry for Eurovision every year. It has fulfilled this role since 2012, when the Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio revamped the old selection process Suomen euroviisukarsinta (‘Finland’s Eurovision Qualifier’) to focus on new music.
Recent History
The most successful Finnish entry to come out of UMK won it just over 18 months ago, when Käärijä won with ‘Cha Cha Cha’. He would go on to finish 2nd at Eurovision 2023 with that iconic song, gaining 526 points.
The most recent edition of UMK was won by Windows95man, who represented Finland with ‘No Rules’ in Malmö earlier this year. He came 19th overall at Eurovision 2024 with 38 points. Popular Finnish artists who have entered UMK in recent years include Robin Packalen, Sara Siipola and Benjamin.
