RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster and organisers of the annual music festival Benidorm Fest 2025 have confirmed a total of almost 1000 entries have been submitted.
Benidorm Fest 2025 submissions close
Following the closure of the submission period, the Spanish broadcaster RTVE confirmed that almost 1000 songs have been submitted online. This is nearly 200 more than the total received last year. An estimated 300 entries were submitted in the final 24 hours of the submission window.
From these 1000 submissions, only 16 will be chosen for the upcoming Benidorm Fest 2025. The team behind the Benidorm Fest 2024 selection committee; Rayden, Pablo Cebrián, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsso, and Beatriz Luengo will once again take the helm.
During a press conference, María Eizaguirre, Director of Corporation and Participation at RTVE gave hints to the broad range of genres and themes presented to the broadcaster. Although pop remains the, *ahem*, popular choice across the board, numerous rap, urban and folk entries were submitted. Many non-Spanish residents also submitted songs, confirming the growth of the festival as a respected international competition. More women than men submitted proposals – and for the first time, a song made by artificial intelligence also made it in.
Once again, the format retains its familiar structure. Next year two Semi-Finals will take place on January 28 and 30. The Grand Final of Benidorm Fest 2025 will be held on February 1. The winner will represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest
Since their debut in 1961, with Conchita Bautista and ‘Estando contigo‘, the Iberian nation has participated in 62 consecutive contests. Only the United Kingdom has a longer unbroken streak. So far Spain has won the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions. Firstly in 1968 with Massiel and ‘La la la‘ and the following year in the dramatic four-way tie, with Salomé and ‘Vivo cantando‘.
Earlier this year Nebulossa won the third edition of Benidorm Fest with the energetic, ‘Zorra’. During the Grand Final of the Malmö contest, Nebulossa achieved 22nd place with 30 points.
