The selection season is officially over, as France has just revealed its 2025 entry for Eurovision, “Maman”, by Louane. She performed it for the first time before any official release as the half-time show of the Rugby match between France and Scotland, in the Stade de France, just north of Paris.
A grand reveal
As we wrote earlier, the reveal had been planned for weeks, and had been suggested by the broadcasting management of France Télévisions, the French public broadcaster. The performance was held at the half-time of the France-Scotland rugby match which concludes the Six Nations Championship. The Stadium itself is one of the largest sports stadium in the world, and has recently hosted important events during the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, like Rugby Sevens, Athletics, para-Athletics, and both closing ceremonies.
The performance was much bigger than what she could do on a Eurovision stage. She sang on a platform hanging above the stadium, with dozens of musicians on the pitch below. Her song, “Maman”, sings about transmission, about passing things over between generations, as her daughter now calls her “Maman” (“mommy”) as she did her own, who passed away some ten years ago.
The video of the reveal was re-released a few hours later:
Who is Louane?
Louane is a 28-year old French singer, whose career took off after taking part in The Voice: La plus belle voix in 2013, where she was eliminated just before the final. This experience also launched her into the movie industry, when she played the main character in La Famille Bélier in 2014, and for which she was awarded the 2014 César for most promising female actor.
Since then, she has published five albums, the latest in October 2024 (“Solo”). Last year, she also performed her own international solo tour, Le Club des sentiments, where she performed as a singer, DJ and instrumentalist. A new tour is planned in 2025-2026, accros large arenas in France and neighbouring countries.
Louane is a mother, and has lost both her parents about ten years ago, an experience which has shaped her career and her songs.
