XTRA REHEARSALS โ€” ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Fire and and upgraded outfits for Shkodra Elektronike

Eurovision is here! Delegations have been arriving in Basel in the last few days and rehearsals started on May 3. After closing the first rehearsals to the press in 2022, the EBU has now done away with TikTok videoclips. They will instead release sets of three photographs a day after each rehearsal, as well as description of the proceedings on their official channels. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, and continue with Albania, the fifth rehearsal of the day, with “Zjerm”.

The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts. (Source: Alma Bengtsson, Corinne Cumming / EBU)

What happened on stage?

This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.

  • Beatriçe wears a red dress again, but one made of red, sparkling crepe satin, and different layers of fabrics/draping. It was apparently made by her mother. The dress extends into a glove for Beatriçe’s right hand, but her left hand remains naked.
  • Kolë wears a dark pea cot, a sort of large jacket/coat with two sets of button, which you close by covering one side with the other (instead of both sides meeting in the middle).
  • The stage is set with the lightning bars from the ceiling lowered in a “staircase” combination: the bars at the back of the stage are the lowest, and the go higher and higher the closer they get to the front, setting a sort of imaginary, lit ceiling above the performers
  • The performance takes place around “a structure of black and light boxes” in the centre of the main stage, with Kolë remaining there with his drum, while Beatriçe moves around the stage for her dance, even using the walkway in the final part of the song
  • The LED screens on the back wall, frame, and light bars, show geometric patterns in red and black
  • In terms of pyrotechnics, there will be flame jets on the frame stage for each chorus

The stage director for this Albanese performance is Emanuele Kabu.

Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 10, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Basel!
