XTRA REHEARSALS โ€” ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น Miriana serving lips, hair and bouncing balls

Eurovision is here! Delegations have been arriving in Basel in the last few days and rehearsals started on May 3. After closing the first rehearsals to the press in 2022, the EBU has now done away with TikTok videoclips. They will instead release sets of three photographs a day after each rehearsal, as well as description of the proceedings on their official channels. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, from the second half of the second semi-finalists, and start with Malta, the first rehearsal of the day, with “Serving”.

The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts. (Source: Alma Bengtsson, Corinne Cumming / EBU)

What happened on stage?

This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.

  • Mirian starts the performance wearing a yellow dress with “a huge skirt made from tiered netting with black sleeves” ; she quickly take it off to reveal a sparkling black and red catsuit. And her hair is bright red
    • She is accompanied by four dancers wearing red fishnet tops and tights with black underwear and red fur jackets.
  • The main prop in this is a set of huge open red lips facing the front of the stage, with a transparent disco ball held between both lips. It stands at the centre of the stage, with Miriana starting inside the disco ball and losing the dress as she is lifted out of the ball
  • Most of the choreographic elements are similar to the MESC performance, and the final chorus is performed on the frame stage, with the Swiss gymnastic balls making a comeback (all red, this time)
  • The LED screens display several graphics: exploding flowers, bouncing leopards, dancing legs, etc.
    • As the song finishes, presumably in the final shot, the words “DIVA NOT DOWN” are written in massive letters – we may expect something as impactful as “CROWN THE WITCH” from last year
  • In terms of pyrotechnics, smoke jets are used in the chorus and in the final section

Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 10, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Basel!
