Eurovision is here! All the delegations are in Basel and most of the semi-finalists have completed their two rehearsals. The automatic qualifiers, however, have not. Their first rehearsals came yesterday, and we will cover them today, now that we have the pictures from these rehearsals. We continue with France, the second rehearsal of the day, with “Maman”.
🇫🇷 France – Louane – First rehearsal

What happened on stage?
This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account and the production notes of the French delegation.
- Louane is barefoot, wearing a black lace dress.
- She stands in a circle, in the middle of the stage, covered in sand. A rain of sand drops from the ceiling on one side of the circle. At some point, it looks like it’s spiralling in its fall.
- She remains in the circle for the entire performance, but at some point she kneels and clear the sand to reveal a mirror
- There is no information about the LED screens, it seems it’s much more focused on Louane and her circle, in a way that would be similar to “Voilà” or “Mon Amour”, with some “stunning camerawork of Louane through the spotlit grains of falling sand.”
The stage director for this performance is Fredrik Rydman, who was the artistic director for Nemo last year, and for Måns Zelmerlöw back in 2015, as well as for Käärijä in Liverpool.
Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday from the automatic qualifiers, and the second rehearsals of the last semi-finalists. And stay tuned for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 10, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Basel!
