Today, the Azerbaijani broadcaster Ictimai Television confirmed the news that they will be represented by esteemed songstress JIVA at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, Austria this May.
JIVA to represent Azerbaijan in Vienna
As the national final season draws to a close and broadcasters formulate their plans for Vienna, Azerbaijan are the latest to confirm their artist. Jamila Hashimova otherwise known as JIVA will take to the Eurovision 2026 stage later this May for the Caucasus nation.
In a lengthy internal selection process, Ictimai received 186 submissions. Of this total, 107 came from local interest. Whilst 79 came from international songwriters. After the submission window closes, 18 were chosen with the singers invited to auditions and interviews in front of a focus group and selection panel. The main themes considered were international potential, stage presence and vocal capacity. Eventually three acts were shortlisted, with JIVA winning the ticket to Vienna.
Back in 2003 JIVA achieved early recognition, placing second in Baku Autumn. Over the years, JIVA has gained experienced locally and abroad, performing in jazz festivals in Switzerland. However, she has branched out musically into pop, dance and R ‘n’ B. Last year she participated in reality singing competition The Voice of Azerbaijan.
The song JIVA will take to Vienna will be released at a later date.
