Helsinki & Tampere begin discussions to host Eurovision 2027

As one of the favourites going into Vienna, Finland’s two main cities, Helsinki and Tampere are already looking ahead to the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 and the prospect of bidding to host should they win this year.

With the Eurovision 2026 Grand Final less than three weeks away, attentions have already turned towards next year and who might be interested in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. Currently, Finland are the bookies favourite to win the contest in Vienna, Austria. Now, the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere have declared interest in putting forward a host bid submission should they take home the crystal microphone for the second time.

“The Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki in 2007 after Lordi’s victory brought tens of thousands of domestic and international guests to Helsinki. We have a great city and the setting for organising major events is in order.”

Liisa Kivelä, (Communications Director City of Helsinki)

“You have to look at it when it’s timely. This cannot be commented publicly at the moment. We rent our venue and we are happy to welcome all the event organisers who want to come here. The choice of the city would be the decision of the Finnish Broadcasting Company. A possible decision would be made by the management team.”

Mirkka Rautala, (CEO Live Nation Helsinki Arena)

Back in 2007 the capital of Helsinki hosted Eurovision following the victory of Lordi’s ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ in Athens. Meanwhile, Tampere brings experience in hosting UMK, the Finnish national selection for the past three years. Making it one of the biggest shows on the NF calendar at the Nokia Arena.

Perttu Pesä, the city events organiser for Tampere has backed calls for Tampere to submit a bid should the opportunity arise. Stating that early talks have begun and the Nokia Arena has the required modern infrastructure the EBU demands of its host venues.

“There is no denying that we have thought about it at the coffee table. We currently have Finland’s newest hall, where technology corresponds to the starting point that is needed today in Eurovision.”

Perttu Pesä, (City Events Organiser of Tampere)

Adding a bit more caution, an executive at Yle added that Vienna remains the upcoming target and focus for everyone at Yle along with their artists Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen.

“At this stage, Yle is preparing for the Vienna Eurovision Song Contest, where we will surely have a great performance coming up.”

Johanna Törn-Mangs, (Executive Editor-in-Chief of Yle’s Culture and Affairs Department)
