XTRA REHEARSALS — 🇭🇷 White and red robes for Croatia’s Lelek

Eurovision is back! Delegations have landed/arrived in Vienna these last few days and rehearsals started yesterday. Just like last year, for the first rehearsal, the EBU releases information on the day of each reharsal, with a sets of three photographs publishe the day after. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, from the first half of the first semi-final (automatic qualifiers excluded). Third in the running order is the band Lelek, representing Croatia with “Andromeda”.

Although all five members of the band were present during the rehearsal, Judita Štorga was sick and did not then take part in promotional interviews or materials after the event, being rested instead. We wish her a speedy recovery!

The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts.

What happened on stage?

This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.

  • Early in the performance, a shot “that really makes use of the catwalk” will give a “dramatic” and “majestic” presentation of the band’s arrival.
  • Pictures confirm the use of pyros
  • The LED screens will show imagery close to what we saw in the music video: caves, forests, and a final high-speed “wormhole” which may be similar to the last few seconds of the video
    • In the official Eurovision podcast, Korina also described that they “wanted the makeup and the hair and the costumes to follow [the dramatic story of the song] and to make it a nice finished circle” which we will see on stage, maybe hinting at the band members forming a circle at the very end of the song?
  • As for outfits, the band uses raggedy-looking dresses, also described as romes: four of the girls (Judita, Korina, Lara and Marina) wear dark red robes with some white elements woven in them, while Inka wears a mainly white dress, with some red elements in it
    • Just as in the music video, this represents the woman who is sacrificed, like Andromeda in the ancient myths

The stage director for Croatia is Jasmin Cvišić, who also directed the Serbian performances in 2022 (“In Corpore Sano”) and 2023 (“Samo mi se spava”).

Since some of the imagery seems to be reminiscent of the music video, here it is for reference:

Here’s the small message the band had for the Eurovision fans after their rehearsal:

Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 9, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Vienna!
