Eurovision is back! Delegations have landed/arrived in Vienna these last few days and rehearsals started yesterday. Just like last year, for the first rehearsal, the EBU releases information on the day of each reharsal, with a sets of three photographs publishe the day after. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, from the first half of the first semi-final (automatic qualifiers excluded). Fifth in the running order is Bandidos do Cante from Portugal, with his song “Rosa”.
🇵🇹 Portugal – Bandidos do Cante – First rehearsal
The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts.
What happened on stage?
This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.
- The performance starts with a long shot of the camera panning through the members of the band, standing next to eachother. The official description compares it to a team singing a national anthem before a match.
- Considering how these panning shots are produced in stadiums or arena, it is likely to be made by a steadycam operator walking in front of the singers, on stage, but it cannot be confirmed at the moment
- Just like in the national selection, they are joined by a violonist during the performance.
- The atmosphere looks “darker” than in Festival da Canção, though, with mainly white light used and white or light blueish tones used on a dark backdrop on the LED screen (although the pictures may not be representative of the entire performance)
- The final moments of the song see a rose blooming on the LED screen
- The band chose casual-looking outfits, in brown and dark green tones, with each member wearing a rose- or flower-shaped motif somewhere on their jacket
Here’s the small message Bandidos do Cante had for the Eurovision fans after his rehearsal:
Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 9, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Vienna!
