Eurovision is back! Delegations have landed/arrived in Vienna these last few days and rehearsals started last weekend. Just like last year, for the first rehearsal, the EBU releases information on the day of each reharsal, with a sets of three photographs publishe the day after. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, from the first half of the second semi-final (automatic qualifiers excluded). And the third act from yesterday was Romania’s “Choke Me”.
🇷🇴 Romania – Alexandra Căpitănescu – First rehearsal
The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts.
What happened on stage?
This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.
- Alexandra wears an outfit made of black leather: a corset, a collar, shoulder pads, as well as extensions strapped around her arms, and knee-high black leather boots
- She’s joined by the four members of her band, as well as a fifth individual who’s identity is kept secret by official commentary (for now), possibly representing the person she’s singing the song to?
- The performance begins with a “representation of a sharp intake of breath”, with Alexandra exhaling “during the climax of the song”, although it is not clear whether that is the actual climax, or (more likely) the conclusion of the song
- The performance is thus staged “between two breaths”, with a lot of energy, tension, and a strong camera presence by Alexandra
- Pictures show that during some part of the performance, Alexandra is linked to her musicians by neon tubular “cables”, which are stuck into her costumes and linked to their guitars/bass.
- The second picture also shows a small prop in the form of a cube on which Alexandra sits, with no cables attached there.
Here’s the small message Alexandra had for the Eurovision fans after her rehearsal:
Stay tuned for further coverage tomorrow, with the rehearsals of today, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 9, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Vienna!
