After JJ’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, numerous Austrian cities are declaring their interest to be the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Next to consider a bid is the Austrian town of Oberwart hoping to offer their location as the home of Austria 2026.
Oberwart for Eurovision 2026?
Located in Burgenland, Oberwart is a small town famed for its ethnic Hungarian minority and the place that JJ’s singing teacher resides. Now they are considering submitting a bid to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Next year the contest will take place in Austria following JJ’s victory with, ‘Wasted Love’. In the aftermath, ORF confirmed the bidding process will commence in the coming days. The focus will be on venue suitability, proximity of the nearest airport and infrastructure.
The Mayor of Oberwart, Georg Rosner has proposed his town to the executives at ORF. Although the town lacks the capacity to accommodate the travelling eurofans, the Mayor believes neighbouring towns in Burgenland can assist. He is confident the town, “has the requirements” to host Eurovision.
“Basically, there would be interest. Oberwart is available.”
Georg Rosner, (Mayor of Oberwart)
The town of Oberwart is home to 7,500 people. The proposed venue is the Burgenland Hall Exhibition Centre scheduled for completion in March 2026.
