German media outlet ESC Kompakt has revealed more details of SWR’s plans for Das Deutsche Finale 2027 which take place next February.
A ‘Music Team’ to choose Das Deutsche Finale 2027 acts
Early next year, SWR will host the German national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 taking place in Bulgaria. On a Saturday night in February Germany will decide its next Eurovision representative. Before then, the broadcaster needs to find acts for the live final. In documents seen by ESC Kompakt, it has been revealed that an expert, ‘Music Team’ will be involved in the selection process. Currently, the song submission window is open and the broadcaster is holding national songwriting camps to widen the search for entries and artists.
The ‘Music Team’ includes:
- Lilly Behling (artists and manager)
- Jules Kalmbacher (producer, writer, juror for Germany Eurovision 2026)
- Pele Loriano (‘The Code’, ‘Wasted Love’)
- Florian Müller (artist and publisher)
- Celina Spanier (manager)
These five will begin to review the submissions after the window closes on September 21. The artists and songs they choose will progress to a second round where music professionals and those with ties to the Eurovision Song Contest will give a further assessment which SWR will use to make its final decision on the acts to take part in Das Deutsche Finale 2027.
Application rules:
- No entries commercially released or performed before September 1.
- Songs must be no longer than three minutes.
- Songs can be in any language.
- The act must either – hold citizenship, residency or have other strong ties to Germany through ancestry or language.
- Songs created in the national songwriting camps may not be submitted to other national selections.
- Acts can apply for other national selections but must withdraw if chosen for Das Deutsche Finale 2027.
- No AI.
