Swedish broadcaster SVT has revealed the host cities and dates for its national selection for Eurovision 2027, Melodifestivalen. The show will once again take place over six weeks, in six different cities and venues, with no major change on the format announced.
Familiar host cities and some exciting returnees
The following cities and venues will host the Swedish selection over the months of February and March:
- Heat 1 – Karlstad – Löfbergs Arena – February 6
- Heat 2 – Gothenburg – Scandinavium – February 13
- Heat 3 – Malmö – Malmö Arena – February 20
- Heat 4 – Halmstad – Halmstad Arena – February 27
- Heat 5 – Norrköping – Himmelstalundshallen – March 6
- Final – Stockholm – Strawberry Arena – March 13
The format will remain that of five heats and one final, with six songs in each heat. Last year, two entries qualified from each heat, with a third one going to the “Final Qualification” round held right after Heat Five, where two would join the ten others for a final with twelve entries.
Among the cities chosen this year are the classic trio of Gothenburg, Malmö and Stockholm, with Halmstad and Norrköping hosting heats for the first time since 2016. During the Norrköping heat, Lisa Ajax and Oscar Zia advanced to the final.
As for Karlstad, when it last hosted a heat in 2024, eventual Eurovision representatives Marcus & Martinus won this heat with, ‘Unforgettable’.
A record number of submissions
Earlier this month, after the closing of the submission window, SVT announced that an absolute record number of 4,077 songs had been submitted for the 2027 edition. Almost 200 more than the previous record set last year of 3,888.
