It’s official, Nicky Byrne will represent the seven time Eurovision winning country, Ireland. The former member of Westlife will sing the song Sunlight and the Irish broadcaster also released a lyric video of the song. His Eurovision entry is his first solo effort in a post-Westlife life. This year, RTÉ decided to go for an internal selection and scrapped the national final which used to be aired during the popular Late Late Show.
Renowned writers Wayne Hector and Ronan Hardiman penned Byrne’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. Hector also wrote songs for top bands and artists such as One Direction, Britney Spears, Nikki Minaj and Jason Derulo. Wayne Hector was once voted as one of the top 25 song writers on earth.
Byrne is somehow linked to Eurovision as since 2013 he has been the Irish spokesperson. He was also a TV presenter but his career was short-lived after The Million Euro Challenge on RTÉ1 stopped after just six months.
