Estonia has chosen the winner of Eesti Laul 2016. Jüri Pootsmann managed to convince his country to hit Play. As a result, he will now represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Pootsmann already entered tonight’s show as the favourite to win the ticket to Stockholm, but that’s never a guarantee for success. He won the jury vote and then qualified for the superfinal, together with former Suntribe member Laura and Cartoon ft. Kristel Aaslaid. Jury runner-up Mick Pedaja just missed out on the superfinal.
The result of the superfinal:
- Jüri Pootsmann – Play
- Laura – Supersonic
- Cartoon ft. Kristel Aaslaid – Immortality
It will be the second year in a row that Estonia will be represented by a song written by Stig Rästa. Last year, he was on stage together with Elina Born to perform Goodbye To Yesterday, which eventually finished seventh in Vienna.
