The drama just keeps coming to us this Eurovision season: Germany withdrawing their internally chosen Xavier Naidoo, Anna Book being disqualified in Sweden and Margaret failing to win in Poland. More drama might now be added to the pile as Hovi Star is considering to change his entry for Stockholm.
Ever since Made of Stars narrowly beat…. Made of Stars in HaKokhav HaBa L’Eirovizion 2016, fans from Israel and beyond have criticised the Doron Medalie composed entry, especially in Hovi’s version. The runner-up was the same song, but then in a more ethnic version, performed by Nofar Salman.
The song Hovi Star would now be considering is not a new one. Fan favourite and third placed Ella Daniel already performed it during the show last Thursday: Somebody Out There. Hovi has, according to Israel Hayom, the biggest newspaper of the country, recorded the song last night and has filed a request to sing that in Stockholm instead. Reports also say that David Maman and Philip Hayon, the composers of Somebody Out There, have agreed with switch, as well as Doron Medalie.
