Jürgen Marcus passed away – Aged 69

Schlager singer Jürgen Marcus passed away mid-May aged 69. Now his manager and partner Nikolaus Fischer told the German Press Agency: “With a heavy heart, I announce that Jürgen Marcus has lost the fight against the chronic lung disease COPD”. He died in his apartment in Munich.

“Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben” (A new love is like a new life)

That was his biggest hit. Jürgen Marcus fought against his disease since 2002. That was also the reason, why he ended his career. He would’ve turned 70 next month. He was married to Nikolaus Fischer for more than 20 years.

Jürgen Marcus in the Eurovision Song Contest

He represented Luxembourg back in 1976 with his entry, the French song “Chansons pour ceux qui s’aiment”. He finished in 14th place in the final held in The Netherlands.
Marcus worked with big names in the music industry like Jack White and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

“It was his express wish to be buried in silence,” Fischer continued. “In order to be able to mourn in silence and dignity during this difficult time, I ask you to refrain from asking questions and to respect this decision.”

Our thoughts at ESCXTRA are with his family and we wish them strength in this hard time.
