Fun!

An Xtra Happy Birthday; June 10th

Greetings to Belgium and Denmark!

Yesterday there were four Eurovision birthdays that needed celebrating. Today we only bring you half as many, as there are only two Eurostars who were born on this day. They are both very young, come from approximately the same part of the continent and they are great musicians. Their Eurovision entries are very different, and so are their results in the contest. One didn’t qualify for the final, while the other finished top 5! We give you Blanche!

Blanche, 19

Blanche, or Ellie Delvaux, represented Belgium at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. She did so with the beautiful, contemporary ballad “City Lights”. She finished fourth in the first semi-final, thus sailing through to the grand final. On the Saturday night she repeated the result from the semi, finishing in an ever so deserved 4th place. In Kyiv, Blanche developed a very close relationship with the escXtra live stream, and both the hosts and the children loved her right back!

Philip Thornhill, 23

Philip represented Denmark at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. He did so as part of the band Anti Social Media. They performed the incredibly fun, 60s inspired song “The Way You Are”, in the first semi-final. There they received a mere 33 points, thus finishing in 13th place. Due to this, they failed to qualify for the grand final, which came as a huge surprise to most people. (Personally, I think it’s a disgrace and a massive injustice.)

All of us here at escXtra hope that both Blanche and Philip have Xtra wonderful birthdays!
