On Monday, Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, landed in Tel Aviv for the first official visit by a member of the British Royal Family to Israel. Of course, when in Tel Aviv you must meet the reigning Eurovision champion Netta!

This morning, huge crowds gathered on Tel Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard in order to see the Duke of Cambridge and Netta meet. As the official Kensington Palace Twitter account reveals, the Israeli public came in their masses!

First Royal visit to Israel
As explained by Simon Perry of People.com, Tel Aviv is Prince William’s latest stop in a tour around the Middle East. Most recently, the Duke of Cambridge had visited Amman in Jordan “highlighting the links between Britain and Jordan and building a new friendship with Crown Prince Hussein”.
Visiting Israel will be the Prince’s most “challenging” stop yet as he “endeavours to build bridges” and “see for himself the communities that make up both historic Jerusalem and the disputed territories he is also set to tour”.
“A spotlight on the people”
In regards to the visit to Israel, Prince William’s official spokesperson, Jason Knauf, explains that:
The complex challenges in the region are of course well-known. The non-political nature of His Royal Highness’s role – in common with all Royal visits overseas -allows a spotlight to be brought to bear on the people of the region: their cultures, their young people, their aspirations, and their experiences.
