An Xtra Happy Birthday; 6 July!

Greetings to Macedonia, Switzerland and the Netherlands!

On this lovely summer day (staying positive is important, no?) we bring you two birthday boys and one girl. Unfortunately, in addition to sharing a birthday, they also share the sad fortune of not qualifying for the Eurovision final. But let’s focus more on birthdays and not so much on non-qualifications!Today’s birthday girl is the lovely Jana Burcesca!

Gordon Hauckeroth, 50

Gordon Heuckeroth represented the Netherlands at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. He did so as part of the group De Toppers. They performed their song “Shine” in the second semi-final, finishing 17th and thus failing qualify for the grand final. They might also be remembered more for their sparkly outfits than for their song.

Adrian, 46

Just like Gordon, Adrian Sieber participated in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. He represented Switzerland, along with the rest of the band Lovebugs. Adrian is the lead singer of Lovebugs, and he is also the songwriter behind most of their music. This includes their Eurovision entry “The Highest Heights”, which he co-wrote with two of the other bandmembers. They were one of the big pre-contest favorites, having had hits in several European countries. However they failed to make it to the final after finishing in a very disappointing and unfair  14th place in the first semi.

Jana Burcesca, 25

Jana Burcesca represented Macedonia at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. She performed her entry, “Dance Alone”, in the second semi-final. The televoters and juries felt no desire to join in the dancing, awarding Jana just 69 points, thus denying her the opportunity of performing again on the Saturday night. She did, however, make a huge impression on the viewers while being interviewed in the greenroom. Her fiancée proposed to her, and she said yes! In her video postcard she had also revealed that she was pregnant! Despite not qualifying for the final, I’d say this evening was a memorable one for Jana! After the semi she joined us on the livestream where she told us that they would name the baby Dona if it was a girl. And it was, and they did!

All of us here at escXtra send our warmest congratulations to Gordon, Adrian and Jana, hoping they will all have an Xtra happy birthday!
