Minsk 2018

Finalists in Belarusian JESC selection revealed

10 finalists selected for this summer's Belarusian selection.

After the audition stage, Belarus now have their contestants for the national final stage of their Junior Eurovision 2018 selection for the upcoming contest on home soil, in Minsk this autumn.

62 auditions, 10 finalists

In what must have been a competitive stage, the panel of jurors narrowed down their 62 artists to a final list of 10. Representing a wide variety of genres, artists both old and new to the Junior Eurovision selection process in Belarus took to the stage to present their song.
The ten selected finalists in the running to represent Belarus at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk are:

  • Artem Skorol – Ulybnis
  • Yelizaveta Meya – Zorka
  • Mariya Gulevich – Ostrov Chikarum
  • Daniel Aleks Yastremskiy – Time
  • Angelina Yaroshchuk – Feeling Good
  • Myata – Odnazhdy
  • Nikita Belko – Ne preday
  • Mariya Zhilina – Welcome To My Belarus
  • Yaroslav Sokolikov – Mir na zemle
  • Monkey Tops – Na stile

After last year’s strong result of 5th place for Helena Maraai with the song “I Am the One”, this year’s contenders have a lot to live up to. The Belarusian national final will take place before 15th September, decided by 50% televote and 50% professional jury. In the event of a tie, the jury will vote again between the two tied songs and in the event of a further tie, the Chairman of the jury will have the deciding vote.

A lot to live up to

Belarus have a much stronger record in Junior Eurovision than they do at the senior Eurovision Song Contest. With two wins to date from Ksenia Sitnik and Alexey Zhigalkovich in 2005 and 2007, plus further podium positions for Andrey Kunets (2006, 2nd place), Lidiya Zablotskaya (2011, 3rd place) and Ilya Volkov (2013, 3rd place), there is a very high bar to reach for any Belarusian contestant at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Last year, Helena Maraai scored 149 points in securing a 5th place result for Belarus at the contest held in Tbilisi, Georgia. This marked Belarus’s ninth top 5 finish since their debut in 2003.

  1. For me, there yould be only this winner: Mariya Zhilina – Welcome To My Belarus.
The song has everything – it is fresh, catchy , traditional (and not too adult-style) and Mariya sings it so damn good. If Belarus picks this song, they will be finish top 4 in Minsk.
