A new Eurovision season is fast approaching and more details for next year’s show begin to emerge. Speaking to fellow fan site Eurovoix, the EBU confirmed that the deadline for countries to confirm participation will be in October.
Just over a month left
Broadcasters that intend to participate in Israel have just over a month left to finalize their Eurovision 2019 intentions. Usually, there is also a mid-September deadline when countries submit the necessary paperwork to the EBU. Last year, the deadline to submit it was on September 15. After that, countries have a few weeks where they have the opportunity to withdraw their application to participate without the incurring in a financial penalty. In 2017, that date was set for October 10th. Therefore, with this EBU’s confirmation we should expect this year’s deadline to be around that time this year as well.
Eurovision Song Contest 2019
The 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place next May in Israel, following Netta Barzilai’s victory with her catchy entry “Toy“. Currently, the host city is not yet known. Recently. EBU’s Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand and other EBU representatives visited Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Eliat the three cities in the run to host the show. We should know the decision of the Reference Group in the next few weeks. So far, 22 countries have either confirmed participation or intent to participate. Unfortunately, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Monaco all confirmed their non-participation. So far, no country that participated in 2018 expressed intention to withdraw.
