It seems like one half of the duo representing Estonia in 2015 has gained prophetic abilities. Reading into the first few lines of ‘Goodbye to Yesterday’, Rästa mimics the struggle of having a new baby in the house:

I woke up at 6AM
My eyes were closed but my mind was awake
Pretended I was breathing in a deep sleep pace

Goodbye to Yesterday

Stig’s partner Karina has also shared a tongue-in-cheek boomerang!

Everyone on the XTRA team congratulates Stig and Karina for the bundle of joy!

Stig Rästa in Eurovision

The Estonian musician is no stranger to the word of Eurovision. Back in 2014 he came third in the Estonian national final as part of the group Traffic. The indie folk song, ‘Für Elise’, missed out on the superfinal by one point! In 2015 he finally got the chance to represent the baltic nation along with Elina Born with ‘Goodbye to Yesterday’. The song, a fan favourite, hit the emotional heartstrings of both the jury and televote, coming 7th overall.

The following year, Rästa tried his chances again, this time solely as a writer for Jüri Pootsman. However, ‘Play’ did not resonate with Europe on the night, coming last (probably unjustly!) in the first semi final.

From 7th to 18th… A huge fall from grace!

This year, Stig tried his luck again to reach the Eurovision stage with the warming and gentle ‘Home’. Though the song always seemed to teeter at the top end of fan polls and rankings, it rarely topped the vocal powerhouse of Elina Nechayeva. It seems Estonians agreed with the fans, as Rästa came second in Eesti Laul 2018.
