Last weekend saw Ireland’s 2017 representative, Brendan Murray progress to the next stage of The X Factor UK. Tonight’s upcoming episode see’s another act with a Eurovision link hope to impress the judges.
Unsuccessful attempt at reaching Junior Eurovision
Singer/songwriter Athena Manoukian is one of the acts featured in tonight’s episode. Eagle eyed fans may recognise the singer, who participated in the 2008 Junior Eurovision national selection for Greece. At 14 years old, she entered with the song To fili tis aphroditis and finished in third place.
The 24 year old flew in from Athens to audition in front of the X Factor judges. In tonight’s episode, she performs her own interpretation of Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love, accompanied by a group of backing dancers.
“In my country, Greece, I do very well but I want to gain more fans in the UK as well because I really love them and I want them to be my fans too.”Athena’s words to the judges, prior to her audition. (Sourced from Tellymix)
Frequently rumoured as ARMTV’s internal choice
Since her unsuccessful attempt at reaching Junior Eurovision, Athena has been linked multiple times to the main contest. With her Armenian heritage, she has been repeatedly rumoured as a likely representative for the country.
It was heavily suggested that she would take part in the 2015 contest, as part of super-group Genealogy. This however, turned out to be false.
