Basel declares interest in hosting Eurovision 2025

After Nemo’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, numerous Swiss cities are declaring their interest to be the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This week, Basel became the latest city to offer their location as the home of Switzerland 2025.

Basel for Eurovision 2025?

Already, Geneva, Zurich and St. Gallen have declared interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Now it’s the turn of Basel to put forward their hosting credentials to the EBU. In the aftermath of Switzerland’s jubilation for Nemo and their victory with ‘The Code’, Conradin Cramer (President of the Canton of Basel-Stadt) took to social media to put Basel into the Switzerland 2025 host city discussions.

Congratulations to Nemo on their great victory at #ESC2024 in Malmö! Switzerland will now host #ESC2025. #Basel is an excellent venue. And we are ready: with our infrastructure, accessibility and hospitality. #ESC2025Basel

The city of Basel is the third largest in Switzerland and sits along the Rhine. The main arena is the 12,400 capacity St. Jakobshalle concert hall. However, the venue ceiling height is only 17.65m, just short of the 18m minimum required for a Eurovision host venue.
