🇸🇪 Dotter releases new single ‘Backfire’

Listen to the new anthem of the Swedish summer below

Fresh from her runner-up placing in this year’s Melodifestivalen, Dotter returns to New Music Friday with another anthem. Taking over your playlists this week and throughout the summer is ‘Backfire’.

‘Backfire’ is a sure fire hit!

New single ‘Backfire’ is the latest track from Swedish sensation Dotter. Back with a bang(er) you will be entertaining your friends in virtual parties all summer! Here Dotter has turned up the tempo from ‘Bulletproof‘ and her usual indie pop sound. Together again with long time songwriter and producer Dino Medanhodzic, the song is an uplifting tropical anthem about overcoming hard times.

“Backfire” is about bad karma, if you do something bad, then you hit it back on yourself. In this case, it’s not about taking action when someone else is trying to push one down. The song is about being strong and showing oneself love and respect, daring to put one’s best first in order to avoid being depressed by people who want a bad one.

Dotter in Melodifestivalen

Back in 2017 Johanna Maria Jansson also known as Dotter made her Melodifestivalen debut. However she was not front and centre stage yet. Instead she was the co-writer of Mariette’s third participation with ‘A Million Years‘. They would go on to finish fourth in the final. Then in 2018 Dotter returned to make her debut as a solo artist in her own right. Despite ‘Cry’ being a fan favourite, the dark pop ballad was eliminated in sixth place in the semi-finals.

Last year Dotter returned to songwriting and came back with the Schlager anthem ‘Victorious‘ for Lina Hedlund. Although it didn’t quite live up to the name, it came a respectable 11th place in the final. This year saw the talented singer take to the stage again. Again tipped to win with its stirring message, ‘Bulletproof’ only missed out on victory by one point to ‘Move’ by The Mamas. The closest winning margin in Melodifestivalen since 2014.
