The Scoop🇪🇸 Spain

🇪🇸 Blas Cantó hopes to enter Eurovision 2021 with an entry written by Duncan Laurence

Could this be the new dream team? After already posting about their collaboration on Twitter, Spain’s Blas Cantó has now confirmed that the reigning Eurovision winner would make a great addition to the Spanish team.

Spain’s plans for Rotterdam

As all fans are probably aware, countries are not allowed to use their 2020 entry for 2021. This means that the Spanish team has to write another song to use in Rotterdam. While “Universo” was entirely in Spanish, Blas Cantó has not ruled out the possibility of performing a song in another language. He has also stated that he wants something “totally different from Universo.”

A new entry written by a winner

This is where Eurovision 2019 winner Duncan Laurence comes into the picture. The Dutch singer has proven his successful songwriting track record even after his winning entry “Arcade”, with songs like “Love Don’t Hate It” and “Someone Else”.

When talking about Duncan Laurence penning the Spanish entry, Blas has said that:

“Hopefully we can go to 2021 with one of Duncan Laurence’s compositions. It would be interesting because he has already experienced this adventure.”

While nothing is officially confirmed yet, the tweets and Blas Cantó’s enthusiasm seem to suggest that a Dutch/Spanish collaboration could definitely be happening in Rotterdam 2021. We keep our fingers crossed!

Blas Cantó in the Eurovision Song Contest

Blas was originally selected to represent Spain at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Universo”. Following the contest’s cancellation, RTVE announced that they had invited him back to represent the nation in 2021.
