🇸🇪 SVT to reveal Melodifestivalen 2021 artists this week

We'll soon find out the participants of next year's contest!

We have come to that time of the year. We will soon find out, the 28 artists that will be competing in Melodifestivalen 2021. Usually, the competing artists are revealed via a press conference. However, due to current circumstances, the competing artists will be revealed in a different way.

Artists to be revealed within three days

SVT has confirmed that the artists competing in next year’s competition will be revealed over three days as follows:

  • 1st December – 9 Artists to be revealed each hour, between 7AMCET and 3PMCET
  • 2nd December – 9 Artists to be revealed each hour, between 7AMCET and 3PMCET
  • 3rd December – 10 Artists to be revealed each hour, between 7AMCET and 4PMCET

SVT has confirmed that the Semi-Finals in which the competing artists will be taking part, will be revealed at a later date. As previously reported, it’s been revealed that all shows will take place in the Annexet Studios in Stockholm in 2021 starting on February 6th with the first semi-final!

Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest

Sweden has participated in the contest 59 times since its debut in 1958. They have missed only three contests since their debut (1964, 1970 and 1976). Since 1959, the Swedish entry has been chosen through Melodifestivalen. In 1997, Sweden was one of the first five countries to adopt televoting, and have continued to innovate the technology behind the contest whenever they host.

Sweden is one of the most successful countries at contest, winning six contests so far. Notably, their wins span their participation history; their victories span five decades with ABBA (1974), Herreys (1984), Carola (1991), Charlotte Nilsson (1999), Loreen (2012) and Måns Zelmerlöw (2015). They currently have the the second-highest number of wins, behind Ireland’s seven.

In 2020, Sweden was set to be represented by The Mamas, after they won Melodifestivalen 2020 with the song ‘Move’. Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled.
