Earlier this week, KAN released 9 demos that are in contention to be Eden Alene’s entry for the 2021 contest, one less than the ten originally due to be released. With public voting underway, the final selection is due to take place on January 25th.
Having whittled down over 200 submissions to just nine, you can now listen to and vote for your two favourite songs in contention to represent Israel at the 2021 contest via KAN’s website.
The song titles are as follows:
- Can’t Stop a Hurricane
- Coming Out
- La La Love
- Rise Up Today
- Set Me Free
- Spilling Magic
- Ue La La
You can listen to the songs and vote (with a VPN if outside of Israel) here. Voting closes on December 13th.
Israeli entry to be selected next month!
As previously reported, three of these songs will be shortlisted for a televised selection special. These will consist of the top two from the public vote, and a song selected by a jury. Each of these songs will be recorded by Eden ahead of a live performance of each.
According to Euromix, ‘Our Song for Eurovision’, presented by Lucy Ayoub, will take place on the 25th of January 2021. This means Eden’s song is likely to be one of the first confirmed entries of the 2021 contest! The names of the writers and producers behind the songs will also be incorporated in the show.
Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest
Israel has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 41 times since making its debut in 1973. The country has won the contest four times. (1978, 1979, 1998, 2018), and has hosted the contest three times (1979, 1999 and 2019).
Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Israel has failed to reach the final six times. In 2005, Shiri Maimon gave the country its tenth top five result with “HaSheket SheNish’ar”, finishing fourth. Having failed to qualify for the final for four consecutive years (2011–2014), Israel reached the final with Nadav Guedj’s “Golden Boy” in 2015. Since Nadav’s ninth-place finish, Israel has qualified for every Grand Final.
In 2020, Eden Alene was selected to represent Israel at Rotterdam. Another national final took place, which saw ‘Feker Libi’ chosen as their entry. Despite the cancellation of the 2020 contest, it’s been confirmed that Eden will represent Israel at the 2021 contest.
