In an appearance on Greek television network OPEN TV, Eleni Foureira has revealed why she turned down the opportunity to represent Cyprus again in the forthcoming 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.
“It was too early!”
Back in September it was heavily rumoured that Foureira was in discussions with CyBC about a potential Eurovision comeback for Cyprus in 2021. Nevertheless, she declined the opportunity with the Cypriot broadcaster opting to internally select Elena Tsagkrinou with the to-be-released song “El Diablo”.
Thank you very much to Cyprus. I love it very much, but it was too early to go to Eurovision again!
Eleni Foureira (December 2020)
In her answer to the question, Eleni reiterated her love for Cyprus and for Eurovision and that declining the invitation for Eurovision 2021 was purely a matter of timing. Indeed, the Greek star believes it was “too early” to return to the contest just three years after her memorable appearance in Lisbon with “Fuego”.
Eleni performs a hits medley
During her recent appearance on OPEN TV, Eleni also performed a fantastic medley of several of her hits released since her participation at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Amongst the tracks performed in the medley, which you can watch via YouTube below, were “Fuego”, “Caramela”, “Loquita”, “El Ritmo Psicodélico”, “Light It Up” and new single “Dokimase Me”.
