🇫🇮 No audience for the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021 final

Seven finalists will be revealed next week

Euroviisuklubi OGAE Finland ry reports that there won’t be any audience attending the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021 final.

Finland will select their Eurovision 2021 representative on February 20th from seven finalists. The finalists will be revealed next week, on January 13th. However, due the COVID-19 pandemic, no audience will be attending the final in Tampere.

Finland uses Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu as their national selection for the tenth time this year. Last year the contest was once again open for all, after two years of the broadcaster Yle internally selecting the artist. This year Yle received 278 songs for the contest and picked seven artists to compete in the final.

Last year the contest was won by Aksel Kankaanranta with his song “Looking Back”. After the contest was cancelled, he expressed interest to represent Finland in 2021, but didn’t send a song to UMK21 after all.

I started watching Eurovision back in 2006, when I was only 10 and couldn't stay up to see Lordi winning. I attended my first contest in 2013 in Malmö. I'm studying journalism and I love music — you will probably never see me without my headphones on.
