Aksel Kankaanranta won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020, Finland’s national selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2020. However, the contest got cancelled and he didn’t get to represent Finland. He has stated in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat that he would like to take part in 2021.
“Everything’s still open”
In the interview he says that while everything is still open, he would like to represent Finland with a new song next year. The European Broadcasting Union has decides that the songs selected for 2020 are not eligible to be used in next year’s contest.
Aksel says that he has plans on working on new music with his record label EMI Capitol. He think he will be making indie pop. He was supposed to represent Finland with the song “Looking Back”.
The producer of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, Anssi Autio, recently told that information about UMK 2021 will come this week.
