Reports suggest that three artists are still in the running to represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Poland are one of only four countries that have not yet officially confirmed information about their selection plans for the upcoming contest.
Dziennik Eurowizyjny are reporting that last year’s Polish representative Alicja is still among those in the running to represent Poland, alongside Cleo (who represented Poland at Eurovision 2014) and Junior Eurovision 2020 host Rafał Brzozowski.
Who will fly the Polish flag?
Polish broadcaster TVP have kept their preparations for this year’s contest very much under wraps, with no official announcements made about the Polish representative. Last summer, Alicja stated in an interview that she hoped to represent Poland again in 2021, but that she would only be selected with “the right song”.
Polish Eurovision website, Dziennik Eurowizyjny have reported that the Polish broadcaster are still deciding on their Eurovision act, but that one act is out of the running. Ochman, who recently released his new single “Wielkie Tytuły”, is said to no longer be in contention to represent Poland at Eurovision 2021, according to “unofficial information”.
The artists that are still in the running, according to the website are:
- Alicja Szemplińska – who was set to represent Poland at Eurovision 2020
- Cleo – who represented Poland at Eurovision 2014
- Rafał Brzozowski – who hosted Junior Eurovision 2020
Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest
Poland made their debut in Eurovision at the 1994 contest in Dublin. Edyta Górniak finished in second place with her song, “To nie ja!”. It still remains as Poland’s best result to date.
Poland has since only made the top 10 on two further occasions – in 2003 and 2016. Ich Troje finished in seventh place in Riga, while Michał Szpak finished in eighth place in Stockholm.
Since the semi-finals were introduced, Poland have qualified for the finals six times (out of a total of 14 attempts). Poland will be hoping to make it a seventh qualification this year, after failing to qualify in 2018 and 2019. Last year, Alicja was selected to represent Poland with her song “Empires”, however the contest was cancelled.
Do you think any of these artists will represent Poland? Would you like to see Alicja return?
