🇧🇬 VICTORIA and BNT choose “Growing Up Is Getting Old” for Eurovision 2021

VICTORIA will sing Growing Up Is Getting Old at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The song, featuring on her EP a little dramatic, was chosen from a shortlist of six songs. BNT and VICTORIA announced their decision during a special concert.

VICTORIA and her battle of two

After going through all the feedback coming from fans and jury members, VICTORIA had to choose between two of her entries. One was Growing Up Is Getting Old, the other Imaginary Friend. In an emotional statement, the Bulgarian songstress stated:

“It was a very difficult decision. I am glad that BNT, Ligna, and my team are totally united in our choice. Your feedback about the songs helped us a lot. The opinion of music and television experts from all over Europe helped us as well. Perhaps for me, choosing from my six songs was the hardest. Each of them is very special to me. But when we had to choose between the two songs with the most support from the viewers and the experts – “Imaginary Friend” and “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, I knew which song I would sing with all my heart and soul on stage in Rotterdam.”

VICTORIA on Growing Up Is Getting Old

In the song, VICTORIA speaks of becoming a better person by going back to your roots and reaching your safe space. When listening to the song, VICTORIA says she thinks about the most important people in her life: her parents, her sister and her friends. Behind the song is VICTORIA herself, together with a team of Swedish songwriters. They are Oliver Björkvall, Maya Nalani and Helena Larsson. Björkvall has previously worked with 2018 Austrian representative César Sampson on his single Lazy Suit.

The music video of “Growing Up is Getting Old” is directed by Victoria Karakoleva and produced by the leading independent Bulgarian production company Four Elements.

For BNT, their participation is not a guaranteed one. This year, they received financial support from iCard, a fintech company. The Bulgarian participation is a public–private partnership between the Bulgarian broadcaster BNT and Ligna Group. Bulgaria returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a two-year absence in 2016. Poli Genova and Kristian Kostov both managed to place in the top four. Afterwards, EQUINOX also made it through to the final. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Bulgaria were forced to withdraw in 2019. Their return in 2020, with the support of iCard, meant the introduction of VICTORIA to the Eurovision Song Contest. Last year, they were one of the favourites with Tears Getting Sober.
