The Polish broadcaster TVP has announced that Rafał Brzozowski will represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song “The Ride”!
Listen to “The Ride”
Rafał Brzozowski might be a familiar name for some Eurovision fans already. In 2017, he took part in Poland’s national selection with “Sky Over Europe” and finished second behind the winner Kasia Moś. In 2020 Rafał hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Poland. He also was one of the jury members of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. His favourite was Australia’s “Zero Gravity”.
The song is written by Joakim Övrenius, Thomas Karlsson, Clara Rubensson and Johan Mauritzson.
Last year Poland was set to be represented by Alicja Szemplińska, who won their national selection Szansa na sukces with her song “Empires”. After the contest was cancelled, Alicja expressed her desire to represent Poland in 2021.
Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest
Poland first debuted Eurovision in 1994, with the fabulous Edyta Górniak and her ‘To nie ja!’. To this day, that remains as Poland’s best ever placing in Eurovision, with them only reaching the top 10 twice since then (most recently in 2016 with Michał Szpak and ‘Color of Your Life’).
Between 2005 and 2011, we only saw Poland in one Eurovision grand final – in 2008 with Isis Gee and ‘For Life’. In the last three years, Poland has again failed to qualify for the final – in 2019, Tulia missed out by only three points.
