Rehearsal review

Rehearsing right now for the second time inside the Rotterdam Ahoy is Lesley Roy performing “Maps” for Ireland. We will continue to update this article as each run through takes place, so make sure to keep refreshing for the most up-to-date review!

Firstly, remind yourselves what happened in the first rehearsal:

And now here is what we’ve noticed in today’s second rehearsal:

Ireland have decided to stick to their guns for their second rehearsal. We still see the paper cut-outs and we see Lesley slowly but steadily finding her ground. She manages to get most of the cues right. Vocally, the performance is better than during the first rehearsal. We can still see how Lesley is very much in her head, thinking about what the next step is, but it’s not taking away from the performance.

As with the first rehearsal, we still see people flicking through the pages of a book. Here’s some work that needs to be done: The two sides are not synchronised with each other and the people on stage flick through the pages on a different pace. For the first run through, the lights were off, but they corrected that soon after. Some of the camera angles aren’t on point and require work, though.

For the last bit of the song, the illusion gets taken away as we zoom out and see someone rolling through the rain screen she is in front of. She walks away to the B-stage, where we can see all of her props on the main stage as silhouettes in front of a dark orange LED screen.
