The City of Oulu will organise an open-air concert to celebrate Blind Channel’s success at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
In the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, the Oulu-based Blind Channel got the second-best result in Finnish Eurovision history after the Lordi’s victory by finishing sixth. The City of Oulu celebrates the band with free open-air event Varjo Piknik on August 8th.
The band’s story is indicative of the high quality of the music education and skills in Oulu. The city lived in the spirit of Eurovision for a couple of weeks and the culmination of the final night was great. We are proud that Blind Channel promotes their home city openly. The band’s conquest of the world also gives positive visibility to Oulu.
Päivi Laajala, the Mayor of Oulu
Earlier this year, Oulu opened a scholarship fund in the name of the band to promote local music culture. With the help of the scholarship, the City of Oulu shows its willingness to help and motivate musicians in the Oulu region, so that successful music players can emerge from the city in the future as well.
This summer Blind Channel will also perform at Qstock, the biggest music festival of Oulu. The band also signed an international record deal with Century Media Records / Sony Music last week.
